Warrior of the Month nominees – November 2016

It’s time to get voting for the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for November – the deadline is just under 24 hours away at 12pm on Thursday 1st December. Here is On Top Of The Moon’s guide to the players nominated for the award:

Nick Grigg – “Porthos”

Games played:
– Scarlets (A)
– Ospreys (H)
Minutes 102

Previous Warrior of the Month nominations: First time nominee

Key stat: 12 tackles made
The, shall we say slightly incoherent nature of Glasgow’s attacking play meant that Nick wasn’t able to repeat his outstanding performance going forward from the Zebre game. In his first ever start at Scotstoun he did showcase his big hitting prowess as a tackler though, at least giving a few of the Ospreys something to think about.

Peter Murchie – “Athos”

Games played:
– Scarlets (A)
– Ospreys (H)
Minutes 160

Previous Warrior of the Month nominations: 4 – Feb 2015, Nov 2014, Sep 2012, Feb 2012
Previous Warrior of the Month wins: 1 – Nov 2014

Key stat: 20 carries for 134 metres
Peter worked tirelessly bringing the ball up from deep and trying to get Glasgow on the front foot. The foundation of his play at full back has always been his solidity under the high ball and it’s this that ensures he will always have opportunities to run. Pete and Tim Swinson were the only players to play 80 minutes in both of November’s matches.

Lewis Wynne – “Aramis”

– Scarlets (A)
– Ospreys (H)
Minutes 138

Previous Warrior of the Month nominations: First time nominee

Key stats: 26 carries and 26 tackles made
Lewis was the work horse of the side in November, making more carries and more tackles than any other Warrior. All this while playing out of position at number 8 (against the Scarlets) and blindside flanker (against the Ospreys). Starts at openside may be hard to come by given Glasgow’s strength in depth in that position, but if Lewis continues to put in the kind of effort he has shown to start this season he won’t be far from Gregor Townsend’s thoughts when the team is being selected.

Previous nominations and wins: OTOTM has tried to collate all the available information on Player of the Month, with nominations starting in the 2011/12 season and the inaugural award itself dating back to 2005/06 (it was an open vote in the first 6 seasons with all players eligible). There are a small number of months where the nominees or winners just don’t appear anywhere on the internet though. If anyone has a source that would allow the list to be completed OTOTM would be delighted to hear from you!
