After a bonus point draw against Exeter, Glasgow are still (just) in the mix for progression to the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions Cup. So what do the Warriors need to stay in the tournament?
To qualify as one of the three best-placed runners-up Glasgow must finish ahead of second-placed teams in at least two other pools.
Glasgow bonus point win against Sale = 17 points
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 1 if:
- Northampton lose away to Lyon; or
- Northampton draw with Lyon.
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 3 if:
- Ulster lose at home to Bath whilst getting no BPs and there is at least a 27 point swing in points difference.
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 4 if:
- Saracens lose at home to Racing; or
- Saracens draw with no try BP; or
- Saracens draw with a try BP and Glasgow beat Sale by at least 43 points(!)
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 5 if:
- Gloucester lose away to Toulouse; or
- Gloucester draw with no try BP; or
- Gloucester draw with a try BP and Glasgow beat Sale by at least 34 points.
Glasgow win (no bonus point) against Sale = 16 points
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 1 if:
- Northampton lose away to Lyon; or
- Northampton draw with no try BP.
Glasgow cannot finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 3
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 4 if:
- Saracens lose at home to Racing (max 1 BP); or
- Saracens lose at home to Racing (with 2 BPs) and there is at least a 43 point swing in points difference.
- Saracens draw with no try BP and Glasgow beat Sale by at least 43 points.
- In addition to one of the Saracens’ result above Glasgow would also need to beat Sale by at least 12 more points than Munster beat Ospreys (or hope that Munster don’t achieve a BP win in their final fixture).
Finish ahead of 2nd place in Pool 5 if:
- Gloucester lose away to Toulouse (max 1 BP); or
- Gloucester lose away to Toulouse (with 2 BPs) and there is at least a 34 point swing in points difference.
- Gloucester draw with no try BP and Glasgow beat Sale by at least 34 points.
