Champions Cup permutations for Glasgow Warriors 2021/22- Round 4

Challenge Cup knock out stage qualification

The teams ranked 9th to 11th in Pool A will qualify for the Challenge Cup Round of 16 (single-legged ties). If Glasgow collect at least 1 point from their match against Stade Rochelais then they are guaranteed (at a minimum) to play in the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup.

If the Warriors pick up no points against Stade Rochelais they will still qualify for the Challenge Cup knockout stages if at least one of the following happens:

Bath v Leinster:

  • Bath lose; or
  • Bath draw but with no try BP; or
  • Bath draw with a try BP but Glasgow lose to Stade Rochelais by no more than 15 points

Sale v Ospreys:

  • Ospreys lose; or
  • Ospreys draw; or
  • Ospreys win but without a try BP; or
  • Ospreys win with a try BP but the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is less than 24 points

Racing v Northampton:

  • Northampton lose; or
  • Northampton draw but with no try BP; or
  • Northampton draw with a try BP but Glasgow lose to Stade Rochelais by no more than 12 points

Montpellier v Exeter:

  • Montpellier lose with no BPs (unless Glasgow’s margin of defeat is at least 64 points more than the margin Montpellier lose by)

Champions Cup knock out stage qualification

The teams ranked 1st to 8th in Pool A will qualify for the Champions Cup Round of 16 (2-legged ties). These are the permutations remaining for the Warriors depending on the number of points they collect from their final pool fixture.

Glasgow – 5 points

If Glasgow win with a try BP against Stade Rochelais they will qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions Cup as long as at least one of the following happens:

Bath v Leinster:

  • Leinster lose with no try BP and the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is at least 107 points(!)

Ulster v Clermont:

  • Clermont lose; or
  • Clermont draw with no try BP; or
  • Clermont draw with a try BP but Glasgow beat Stade Rochelais by at least 28 points

Sale v Ospreys:

  • Sale lose; or
  • Sale draw with no try BP; or
  • Sale draw with a try BP but Glasgow beat Stade Rochelais by at least 30 points

Montpellier v Exeter:

  • Montpellier lose; or
  • Montpellier draw; or
  • Montpellier win but with no try BP; or
  • Montpellier win with a BP (unless Montpellier win by at least 63 more points against Exeter than Glasgow’s margin of victory against Stade Rochelais); or
  • Exeter lose with no BP and the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is at least 84 points(!)

Glasgow – 4 points

If Glasgow win without a try BP against Stade Rochelais they will qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions Cup as long as at least one of the following happens:

Ulster v Clermont:

  • Clermont lose – max 1 BP; or
  • Clermont lose with both BPs and the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is at least 28 points; or
  • Clermont draw with no try BP and Glasgow beat Stade Rochelais by at least 28 points

Sale v Ospreys:

  • Sale lose – max 1 BP; or
  • Sale lose with both BPs and the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is at least 28 points; or
  • Sale draw with no try BP and Glasgow beat Stade Rochelais by at least 30 points

Montpellier v Exeter:

  • Montpellier lose; or
  • Montpellier draw; or
  • Montpellier win but with no try BP (unless Montpellier win by at least 63 more points against Exeter than Glasgow’s margin of victory against Stade Rochelais)

Glasgow – 3 points

If Glasgow draw with a try BP against Stade Rochelais they will qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions Cup as long as at least one of the following happens:

Ulster v Clermont:

  • Clermont lose with no BPs; or
  • Clermont lose with a try BP but by at least 28 points

Sale v Ospreys:

  • Sale lose with no BPs; or
  • Sale lose with a try BP but by at least 30 points

Montpellier v Exeter:

  • Montpellier lose; or
  • Montpellier draw

Glasgow – 2 points

If Glasgow collect 2 points (either via a draw or a loss with both BPs) they will still qualify as long as results in at least 3 out of these 5 matches go in their favour

Bath v Leinster:

  • Bath lose; or
  • Bath draw; or
  • Bath win but without a try BP; or
  • Bath win with a try BP but but the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is less than 16 points

Ulster v Clermont:

  • Clermont lose with no try BP by at least 28 points more than Glasgow lose to Stade Rochelais

Sale v Ospreys:

  • Sale lose with no try BP by at least 30 points more than Glasgow lose to Stade Rochelais

Racing v Northampton:

  • Northampton lose; or
  • Northampton draw; or
  • Northampton win but without a try BP; or
  • Northampton win with a try BP but the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is less than 13 points

Montpellier v Exeter:

  • Montpellier lose – max 1 BP; or
  • Montpellier lose with both BPs (unless Glasgow’s margin of defeat is 64 points or more than Montpellier lose by); or
  • Montpellier draw but with no try BP (unless Glasgow lose by at least 64 points to Stade Rochelais).

Glasgow – 1 point

If Glasgow collect 1 point (ie lose by less than 7 points or by more than 7 but with a try BP) they will still qualify as long as at results in all 3 of these matches go in their favour

Bath v Leinster:

  • Bath lose; or
  • Bath draw; or
  • Bath win without a try BP but but the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is less than 16 points

Racing v Northampton:

  • Northampton lose; or
  • Northampton draw; or
  • Northampton win without a try BP but the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is less than 13 points

Montpellier v Exeter:

  • Montpellier lose; or
  • Montpellier lose with 1 BP (unless Glasgow’s margin of defeat is 64 points or more than what Montpellier lose by)

Glasgow – no points

If Glasgow collect no points they will still qualify as long as results in all 4 of these matches go in their favour

Bath v Leinster:

  • Bath lose; or
  • Bath draw but with no try BP; or
  • Bath draw with a try BP but Glasgow lose to Stade Rochelais by no more than 15 points

Sale v Ospreys:

  • Ospreys lose; or
  • Ospreys draw; or
  • Ospreys win but without a try BP; or
  • Ospreys win with a try BP but the change in points difference between them and Glasgow is less than 24 points

Racing v Northampton:

  • Northampton lose; or
  • Northampton draw but with no try BP; or
